Hello World!
Well today marks the online debut of Chipin.com, or at least there is a landing page to greet people. We have been working in stealth mode for the past six months or so thinking, tinkering, creating, writing, dancing, and talking to shape our idea into a business. We can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and hope it is not a train heading our way
Olin initially got us together in the same room with another one of his crazy ideas. Our genesis might have come over a lunch eating dim sum in chinatown lamenting about this and that until suddenly the magic words were uttered “wouldn’t it be great if something like this was available online?” We all just sort of stopped mid potsticker and realized we had stumbled onto a fantastic idea and needed to run with it. Over the course of the next couple of weeks we bantered around the idea on whiteboards at the St. Louis club house (thanks Shawn!) and put all our scribbles and scratch into a concept paper.
With the team and an idea in place, we headed out to get some seed funding. Our friend Greg Kim jumped in to help us with our incorporation and created our first set of term sheets for our seed round. With our team in place, we quickly raised the round and started building out the prototype. There’s a lot to tell in between that time and today, but that may have to wait for another posting. With so many Web 2.0 companies in the world, what makes us so different? How are we going to stand apart from the noise out there? Think ecommerce for Web 2.0.
