Back to Blogging

It has been too long, but time for me to finally launch our blog as just that.. a place to digest and share. I had a great meeting with Shel Israel who writes Naked Conversations two days ago and he has convinced me that I need stop worrying about what I say and just write away. Shel started things off by posting a very nice story about our breakfast.

So, to start things off, we have been soo busy lately that it is hard to see the forest from all the trees, twigs, and other little things that seem to pop up on a daily basis. I thought I would share an email I sent out to our team this past week…

It is Sunday morning and instead of waking up to a leisurely day of rest, you are all working hard to launch our next release by Tuesday. I want to first thank everyone for making an amazing push for a milestone release for the company. I also want to take a moment to share with you why I am working on ChipIn. Sometimes we all focus so much on the details (trees) that we loose site on the bigger picture (forest).

When you each joined the team, we discussed that this company’s philosophy is that we can do well by doing good. We can build a successful company with a high valuation while also helping individuals and organizations. If you look at how ChipIn has already made a difference, you can just look at the successful events on our system.. we have helped a student in Cambodia go to school, we helped a young girl in California support her sick relative, we sent money to Uganda, and raised awareness for Oxfam. It is probably a reach to say that these events could not have raised money without ChipIn, but it is clear that they probably raised more money because of ChipIn.

I believe that every individual has the power to make a difference especially if given the appropriate tools to harness the power of online communities. Our innovative approach to online fundraising has caught the attention of folks like Steve Case. I am proud of what we have created and very excited about what is still to come. I hope each of you can appreciate that we are building a disruptive fundraising platform that will forever change how individuals and organizations approach raising money. We are delivering an unprecedented infrastructure for tracking the relationship between both our badges and contributors.

Even though I would like to say that things will slow down or that we can cruise after this release, it is likely that we will have to continue working hard to be first to market with our ideas and to completely dominate any potential competitors so that our partners would rather buy us than build it themselves. I do not expect that we will be on a constant full “push” as we have been for this iteration, but I am sure there will be certain iterations that need the extra effort.

When we launch the Webhistory Center campaign on Tuesday night at CommerceNet, it is a reflection of the entire team as each of us are equally responsible for our success.
