How to Utilize MySpace for ChipIns
With more than 100 million users, MySpace is far and away the most popular social networking Web site, and thus, a great place to get the word out about your ChipIns!
The ChipIn Widget is the best way to organize your MySpace friends around your events. Here’s what to do:
- Step 1: Login to your ChipIn account and click the “My Widgets†tab.
- Step 2: Use the drop down menu to decide which ChipIn event you want to promote on MySpace.
- Step 3: Customize the size and messaging of your widget.
- Step 4: Click the MySpace icon to generate the code that you will be pasting into MySpace
Now you are ready to start using MySpace to collect for your event. Use any of the following strategies to make the most of your ChipIn event on MySpace.
Place the ChipIn Widget for your event into your profile
ChipIn’s Widget will work in any of your profile fields. Simply paste your widget code into any of your Interests & Personality sections or your About Me area and click “Save All Changes.†This works in custom or standard profile layouts.
Post your ChipIn Widget on a friend’s comments section
Share your widget with friends that might support your cause. First, go to your friend’s profile. Then, click on “Add Comment†and paste your widget code into the “Body†field and post your comment. Now anyone that visits your friend’s profile can contribute to your ChipIn or post the widget on their own site to keep the giving going.
Spread the word to all of your friends with a public bulletin
MySpace Bulletins enable you to send a message to all of your MySpace friends. To publicize your ChipIn through public bulletins go to the “My Mail†section of your profile and click on “Post Bulletin.†Enter a subject and a short message and make sure to paste your widget code into the “Body†section. When you’re ready to send it, click “Post†to let all of your friends know about your ChipIn.
Find new friends to support your event
Do a search to find other MySpace users that are interested in topics relating to your event. When you find someone, send a friend request or private message to introduce yourself and let them know about your cause.
