Dangling clones
We released a new beta feature last week for our institutional clients (see webhistory.org/chipin that allows us to track and moderate widgets across the Web. We quietly rolled the feature into our personal chipin.com product to test and in the rush, yes it does happen when business folks needs features to sell, we introduced a pretty major bug that has been making our servers bog down the past 12 hours. Our team worked all night to come up with a solution and before deploying we are testing testing and testing some more. It is of course a lesson we have all learned in the past, but as with all startup companies, we take calculated risks to get things done! Sometimes they work with huge success and other times we fall flat on our face.
We will of course work to prevent these hiccups in the future, but as I truly believe, it is not how badly you screw up, but how elegently we can recover. I am on my tiptoes dancing!
On another note, we are always innovating. Olin pushed out a prototype contribution mapping mashup last night that you can see at 8wishes.com. We also continually find compelling reasons why ChipIn can help make the world just a little better. Check out Heather’s ChipIn Event/
And last but not least.. Tim sent me a video about the virtues of planning before building.
